The album is said to have a more polished and direct sound when compared with their previous work. Simulation Theory, Muse's eighth studio album, was released in 2018 and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. The album features 11 tracks, including the singles "Dig Down", "Thought Contagion", "Something Human", "The Dark Side", and "Pressure". The album was also released as two deluxe editions, featuring additional alternate versions of its tracks. Compared with darker, more dystopian themes of previous albums, Simulation Theory is centralised around science fiction and 1980s pop culture.

Will of the People, Muse's ninth and most recent studio album, was released in 2022 and reached number one onf the UK Albums Chart. The album features 10 tracks, including the singles "Compliance", "Will of the People", "You Make Me Feel Like It's Halloween", "Kill or Be Killed" and "Won't Stand Down", the latter was the first track to be released, after it was teased by Matt Bellamy on Instagram in the prior December. Will of the People was described by Matt as "a greatest hits album - of new songs."
